Minnesota District 7 -- Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach toured the northern part of the Seventh Congressional District recently, stopping by Steve Porter’s deer farm in Kittson County. Porter has been actively raising awareness of how government regulations are affecting the livelihoods of deer farm owners. He has directly felt the effects at his farm. He also invited other farmers to the meeting who have been dealing with the extreme regulations. After the conversation, Porter took the Congresswoman for a ride around his property so she could see firsthand how the regulations would affect individual farms.

The congresswoman is fighting to protect the rights of these farmers and ensure that federal tax dollars only go to states that treat all farmers fairly. Political agendas cannot be allowed to eliminate parts of our agricultural industry.

During the Congresswoman’s time at Steve Porter’s Trophy Whitetails, they also discussed the importance of delisting grey wolves from the Endangered Species List. In December, the U.S. House passed the Pet and Livestock Protection Act, which the Congresswoman co-sponsored, which will delist the grey wolf. That legislation is now in the U.S. Senate and is awaiting a vote. The grey wolf has been fully recovered and has now become a threat to livestock. It is essential that the Senate take up this issue.
