Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 5, the so-called “Equality Act.” In response, Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach (MN-7) released the following statement:

"The 'Equality Act' – a thinly-veiled attempt to restrict the liberties of the American people and force unreasonable mandates upon our institutions – threatens to derail the longstanding fight for actual equality. The bill imperils the free exercise of religion, undermines the freedom of conscience, and erodes the ability for parents to make decisions in the best interests of their children. Further, it is a backdoor for anti-life activists to create a legal right to an abortion, forcing taxpayers and businesses to cover abortion costs and requiring medical providers to perform abortions, even if the procedure conflicts with their own deeply held beliefs.

"I will always defend the rights of my constituents and the right to life, from conception to natural death."
