Farmers for a Fair Deal applauds a letter sent by U.S. Representatives Michelle Fischbach (MN-07), Mariannette J. Miller-Meeks, M.D. (IA-01), Dusty Johnson (SD-at large), and Zach Nunn (IA-03) to U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent about rulemaking that will address the implementation of the 45Z Clean Fuels Production Tax Credit. The letter highlights concerns regarding the timeline for final rulemaking and implications for investing, contracting, and project development in 2025 and beyond.
The four members of Congress provide thoughtful and practical feedback and recommend that the Treasury Department consider several technical and procedural issues as the agency’s 45Z rulemaking proceeds.
Among other issues, the letter highlights a priority of Farmers for a Fair Deal:
“…Treasury should also consider continuing the requirement that electricity represented by an Energy Attribute Certificate (EAC) must be generated by a facility that is geographically located in the same U.S. Department of Energy Needs study region as the 45Z-qualifying fuel production facility claiming the 45Z tax credit.”
