Washington, D.C. - This week, House Republicans passed H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, fulfilling Republicans' promise to the American people to deliver a nation that is safe by securing the border and combatting illegal immigration.
"Because Democrats ignored the immigration crisis, some even pushing for open borders, this country is now facing a record amount of illegal immigrants, many of them known criminals, and a fentanyl overdose epidemic," said Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach (MN-07). "Every corner of America is facing the harmful effects of Democrat leadership's failure to secure our borders. Republicans are listening to the people of this country and are committed to securing our border and putting a stop to this immigration crisis. I am proud of the House for passing the strongest border security bill to date."
H.R. 2 will secure the border by forcing the Biden Administration to restart construction of the border wall, deploy technology to the northern and southern border, and increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay. It will combat illegal immigration by ending catch and release, strengthening and streamlining the asylum process, and strengthening current law to protect unaccompanied children from human trafficking.
