Washington, D.C. - Hamas terrorists have claimed responsibility for a surprise attack on Israel. Israel has responded with counterstrikes. Israeli President Netanyahu says Israel is now at war. The attack took place on the 50th anniversary of the 1973 war, which began with a surprise attack on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur.

"This attack on Israel is shocking and horrifying, and I pray for and grieve with the families who have lost their loved ones," said Rep. Fischbach (MN-07). "The United States condemns this heinous attack and firmly stands with one of our strongest allies as they do everything in their power to defend themselves against these Iran-backed terrorists."
