House Congressional Pro-Life Caucus co-chairs, Rep. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Rep. Andy Harris, M.D. (R-MD), today welcomed Rep. Michelle Fischbach (R-MN) as a new co-chair of the Pro-Life Caucus, tapping her years of legislative experience to help advance the cause of life in the 117th Congress.

During her 22 years in the Minnesota State Senate—including four as the first woman Senate President—Rep. Fischbach led multiple legislative initiatives to protect mothers and their unborn children. She wrote the state’s Women’s Right to Know Law and carried a number of other pro-life bills, including abortion clinic licensing legislation.

Rep. Fischbach continued to fight for life as Minnesota’s 49th Lieutenant Governor.  Starting her public service career as the first woman on the Paynesville, Minnesota City Council, she is honored to now serve as the Representative for Minnesota’s seventh Congressional district.

“Rep. Fischbach is a steadfast champion of life—both during her tenure in the Minnesota State Government and now here in Congress,” said Rep. Smith. “Her effective leadership could not come at a better time as we work to restore protections for the weakest and most vulnerable: the unborn baby.  Rep. Fischbach is a known trailblazer and is a tremendous asset to the leadership team of the Pro-Life Caucus.”

Harris stated, “I’m very excited to have Rep. Fischbach join us in leading the Pro-Life Caucus. From her time in Minnesota coupled with her short but dedicated time here in Washington advocating for a pro-life agenda, Rep. Fischbach is a welcome addition to our leadership team and widely supported by all those fighting for life.”

“It is an honor to serve as a co-chair of the House Congressional Pro-Life Caucus. I am proud to join so many of my colleagues in defense of the fundamental right to life,” said Rep. Fischbach. “As an American, as a Minnesotan, as a woman of faith, and as a mother and grandmother, the issue of life is personal to me. Life is sacred – and it’s worth fighting for and protecting.”

In Congress, Rep. Fischbach has already established herself as a leading voice for the unborn, serving as author of the Protecting Life and Taxpayers Act of 2021 and supporting dozens of pro-life letters, petitions, and bills.

Smith and Harris applaud Rep. Fischbach’s bold solidarity with the weakest and most vulnerable and welcome the drive, dedication, experience, and creativity she brings to this new role within the Pro-Life Caucus.

Established in 1981, the Pro-Life Caucus works to promote life-affirming policies and ensure that all persons—regardless of age, health, sex, race, stage of development or condition of dependency—are guaranteed full constitutional safeguards.
