WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1280, the ‘George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.’ In response, Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach (MN-7) issued the following statement:

“Disguised as ‘accountability,’ this bill demonizes law enforcement, hinders their ability to do their job, and limits their capacity to respond to calls for help. There is room for common ground, but Democrats rejected any attempt by Republicans to weigh in with solutions that might make a difference.

“The path forward is through supporting law enforcement and working together on solutions that assist them in developing the tools necessary to keep our communities safe and protect the rights of the citizens they serve. Unfortunately, this bill falls far short.”
