Washington, D.C. - This week, the House of Representatives passed the SAVE Act to affirm and enforce existing laws to keep non-citizens from voting in federal elections.
"It is critical to our democracy that voters have faith in their elections. Unfortunately, in states like Minnesota, where Governor Walz has done nothing about the non-citizens that are appearing on voter rolls and receiving election ballots, that faith is at risk," said Rep. Fischbach (MN-07). "The SAVE Act requires proof of citizenship when registering to vote, enforcing existing laws that state only U.S. citizens are allowed to vote. This vote was a simple, straightforward YES for all of us who believe in election integrity."
Background: The SAVE Act requires states to obtain proof of citizenship, in person, before registering an individual to vote in a federal election. It also requires states to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls, while giving them the necessary rules to do so.
