Willmar, MN - Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach met with Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar Cooperative leadership and growers in Renville to discuss challenges facing the sugarbeet industry. Producers highlighted rising fuel costs, weed-resistance challenges, and increasing international competition. The group discussed the need for additional federal assistance for crop losses and urged for consideration of weather-related aid in future policy discussions. Producers also urged U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) Jameson Greer to address foreign treasuries dumping sugar into the U.S. market. Rep. Fischbach has already joined colleagues in urging USTR and USDA to address these unfair foreign trade practices affecting American sugar producers.
