WASHINGTON, D.C. – Tonight, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1, the so-called ‘For the People Act.’ In response, Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach (MN-7) issued the following statement:

“Tonight’s vote was not ‘for the people’ at all; it was another partisan power grab by Democrats bent on stacking the deck in their favor. The legislation – which was shoved through under the guise of ‘reform’ and without any Republican input – would fund political campaigns with taxpayer dollars, legalize voting for convicted felons, weaken election security, make it more difficult to protect against voter fraud, and override the ability of states to manage their own elections.

“Elections belong to the people, but this bill would concentrate power among entrenched Democrat politicians instead. That is not helpful to the people of Minnesota’s Seventh District.”
